Sustainability policy<\/h1>\n

Munthe's Hildasholm is one of Dalarna's finest visitor attractions, as well as a listed building, whose purpose is to preserve the historical flavour of the cultural environment and offer accessibility for visitors.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Adjacent to the house is a surprising and stunning garden, whose garden rooms are laid out according to Arts & Crafts' ideal plan. This was partly created by Hilda Pennington Mellor, wife of Axel Munthe and mother of Malcolm and Peter Munthe. The house was their summer home for many years from the early nineteenth century.<\/p>\n\n

Respecting the characteristics and conditions of our destination requires a long-term approach to sustainability.<\/p>\n\n

Purpose & objectives<\/h2>\n\n

Hildasholm's purpose and goal with this sustainability policy is to both protect and safeguard our cultural heritage. We will have an inclusive tourism that welcomes all visitors. We want to be a positive actor in Leksand, among other things by being a good neighbour with Leksand's church, the municipality and Leksand's hockey arena, as well as having a good collaboration with the County Administrative Board.<\/p>\n\n

Definition<\/h2>\n\n

For us, financial sustainability means having a well thought-out and transparent budget that allows for a slow increase in visitor numbers, primarily through a widening of our opening hours, as well as increased accessibility of the Great House. The Foundation's long-term financial sustainability is also a prerequisite for the preservation of the monument and its general accessibility to visitors.<\/p>\n\n

For us, environmental sustainability means that the existing management plans for parks, gardens and buildings that are in place are well thought out, long-term and well anchored in the protection and provisions of the monument declaration. They are reviewed annually and updated as necessary. We endeavour to manage resources, materials and energy efficiently.<\/p>\n\n

For us, social sustainability means being a destination that puts the visitor (guest) in focus, and that we offer good working conditions for all staff.<\/p>\n\n

Commitment<\/h2>\n\n

In order to create long-term sustainability, the guidelines of this policy must be kept up to date in both Hildasholm's board and management team meetings.<\/p>\n\n
